Book Review

Hi everyone! I hope you're all hanging in there and doing okay during this time. I know this is an adjustment for all of us. I think with time, we will get adjusted to this new normal and hopefully by then we will be able to go back to what our real normal is!

Today I'm sharing an updated book review. I should start by saying that I listen to most of my books - I love using audible for this! I listen around the house while I'm cleaning, showering, doing my hair, etc. It's great. But anyway, let's get into the books! They're listed in random order!

Verity by Colleen Hoover

This book was GOOD and definitely had some unexpected parts of it. This book is a page turner and you're not going to want to put it down. Verity is about a struggling writer, Lowen, who is offered an unreal job. Jeremy Crawford asks Lowen to finish writing the remaining books from his wife's series because his wife has been injured and is unable to finish. Lowen ends up taking the job even after being a bit reluctant to do so. We follow Lowen along on this new journey of hers as she uncovers secrets about the Crawford family that no one would expect.

This book will take you through allll the emotions. It gets weird at times and it's a bit rated R at times, too. You will definitely be shocked by multiple events throughout the book. You will also not expect the ending. I highly recommend this book!

Unspeakable Things by Jess Lourey

Another great read/listen - Unspeakable is based off of a true story that took place in Jess Lourey's hometown. In this story we meet Cassie, a young girl who lives on a farm with her family and loves school. She lives a pretty normal life and is seemingly a happy, young girl. Her parents throw "weird" parties at times but Cassie and her sister have learned to deal with them and look the other way.

Cassie and her sister begin making plans for what they're going to do this summer - everything is looking bright. Until things start to change in their small town. Young boys start disappearing and reappearing. When they reappear, they're different - no longer friendly, funny, or lighthearted. They are now more violent, angry, and rude. Rumors begin to develop about what has happened to these boys and the theories are endless.

Cassie takes it upon herself to dig deeper to try and find out what has been happening in their town. I loved this book - it was a quick read!

Before She Was Found by Heather Gudenkauf

This book is about a young girl named Cora Landry and her two friends Violet and Jordyn. The 3 of them made plans to have a sleepover and do your typical girl things - play games, talk about boys, etc. Instead, those plans change and they decide to sneak out of Cora's house to the abandoned train yard. Because of that decision, things would never be the same for Cora, Jordyn, or Violet.

Cora is found brutally beaten on the train tracks and Jordyn and Violet were nowhere to be found. In this book we hear from different perspectives of the different characters as they try and discover what happened to Cora that night. We hear from Cora's journal, Violet's mother, the therapist, and Jordyn's grandfather. There are so many twists and turns in this story and the ending is not what you'd think.

The Other Mrs. by Mary Kubica

Looking back at this book - WOW the ending is shocking!! I did not see it coming at all, but maybe that's just me and you'll be able to guess it! Lol.

Anyway, this book is about Sadie and Will. They just moved from Chicago to a small town in Maine. Shortly after they move in to their new place, their neighbor, Morgan is found murdered in her house. This murder comes as a complete shock to the entire small town. And Sadie seems to be very much invested in finding out what happened to Morgan that night.

Sadie uncovers all kinds of secrets that will shock you. I highly recommend this book!

The Jetsetters by Amanda Eyre Ward

Out of all of the books I'm mentioning here today, I think this one was my least favorite. Not because it wasn't good - it's just different than the types of books I'm used to reading!

70-year-old Charlotte Perkins hears about this "Become a Jetsetter" contest and decides to write an essay to enter herself and her family to win a trip together. Charlotte has three children, Lee, Cord and Regan. She would love to win this trip to bring them all back together.

Charlotte finds out that she won the contest! She and her family pack up their bags - some more excited about going than others. They get to spend 10 days on cruise ship called the Splendido Marveloso. Some secrets are revealed throughout this cruise and the family is forced to deal with some issues that they've kept hidden away.

This was a good book, just not my favorite out of all the ones I've read recently!

You Are Not Alone by Greer Hendricks & Sarah Pekkanen

I was SO excited about this book and it did not disappoint! I loved the last book they wrote together (An Anonymous Girl) and in my opinion, this book is just as great!

Shay Miller is a woman in the city who is feeling quite lonely - searching for love, a great job, and a place to live. She was going about her ordinary day when she witnesses a young woman jump in front of a moving subway train. Shay was shook up, to say the least. She realized that she actually had so many similarities with this girl and was worried that her life could end up just like that.

Shay ends up meeting a group of women who seem to have it altogether and these women are suddenly eager to help Shay find love, and apartment, and a job. Shay is excited and truly looks up to these women as someone that she aspires to be. These women seem to be great and seem to truly be looking out for Shay. Shay is loving it all until she begins to question it. What do they want from her? Why would they suddenly be so nice to her - a stranger they do not even know?

This book is a true page turner and it will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat! I finished this book in 2 days - it was SO good.

That's all I've got for this round of my book review! I'm sure I'll have another one coming up within the next few weeks now that I'll be home more! I hope you find some great reads from this post! Happy Reading!
