My Updated Skincare Routine
I think my most asked question lately is what my skincare routine is. As many of you know, it’s been a LONG journey to get my skin to where it is now. My wedding is less than 9 months away and getting my skin to a healthy state was/is one of my main priorities. I’m going to share my in depth skin care routine and what I’ve been doing to take care of and invest in my skin :-). This post will be pretty long so sit back and enjoy!
Let me start by showing you a couple photos of what my skin looked like before switching up my routine, seeing a dermatologist, etc. It’s been a long journey and I’m still working at it but I’m so happy with where my skin is right now!
My Skin Before
AM Routine
Step 1 - Dr. Dennis Gross Face Wash - I was sent a few Dennis Gross products to try out and I fell absolutely in love with this face wash. I love it because it’s gentle yet effective at the same time. It also
Step 2 - Paula’s Choice Exfoliant - I recently just added this into my routine after hearing amazing things about it. I can’t really say that I’ve seen results, but then again, my skin is the best it’s ever been lol. I only use this 3x a week (I don’t use it on the nights that I’ll be using Tretinoin).
Step 3- Biologique Recherche L’Eauxygenante Spray - I had never heard of this brand before going to the Equinox spa back in November and getting a facial there. This spray was a gift from Nick’s mom and I have to say, my skin really loves it! You can read more about what it is and the benefits by clicking the link above.
Step 4 - Hyaluronic Acid Serum - I have come to absolutely love/need a hyaluronic acid serum in my skincare routine. I absolutely love the Dime one and I recently started using the one from Colleen Rothschild. They’re both great and work essentially the same way for my skin. I apply this on my face right after using the spray in step 2. I’ve heard you’re supposed to apply hyaluronic acid serum when your face is a bit damp! My code for Dime products is rose20 and my code for Colleen Rothschild products is laurenrose20.
Step 5 - Origins Eye Cream - this eye cream has been a tried and true product for me for years now. I’ve tried many others and I always come back to this one. I love that it’s hydrating and also brightening. I feel like it really does help me look more awake and put together lol.
Step 6 - Moisturizer - Since I use tretinoin in my night time skincare (see below), my skin has definitely been more dry. That being said, I need a very hydrating moisturizer. I have been absolutely loving the Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream. I was originally using it at night but my skin responded so well to it so I started using it during the day too.
Step 7 - Sunscreen - I used to NEVER wear SPF daily, which I now know is like a crime lol. But really, after getting facials and talking to dermatologists, they really emphasized the importance of wearing SPF daily. Now that I’m 30 and only getting older, I really have been trying to take care of my skin. I don’t want to rush the aging process of my skin by not wearing SPF. While I love the Dime Wonderscreen, I have recently been using a tinted moisturizer from Elta MD and it’s been amazing. I love that it’s tinted and evens out my skintone a bit. I can’t wait to try Dime’s new tinted sunscreen when it launches!
Step 8 - Lip balm - I have been LOVING this summer friday’s lip balm. It’s hydrating without being too thick or sticky. I typically use the vanilla shade but there’s other options as well!
PM Routine
Step 1 - Cleansing Balm - you guys know by now that I absolutely LOVE the Colleen Rothschild cleansing balm. I’ve literally been using it since I started blogging - almost 6 years ago! It’s incredible. I love how gentle yet effective it is. It’s seriously the easiest way to take my makeup off - especially stubborn mascara. I don’t use this every day - only if I have on makeup! You can use code LaurenRose20 for 20% off!
Step 2 - Eye Cream - I use a different eye cream at night because I don’t care as much about the brightening aspect of it. I have really been loving the squalane + marine eye cream from Biossance. I feel like it really does help firm and hydrate my undereyes!
Step 3 - Moisturizer - I use the same moisturizer in my PM routine as I do in my AM routine! I love that it comes in such a big container so it lasts me such a long time!
Step 4 - Tretinoin - I started using Tretinoin back in September and I can’t really say if it’s made a difference yet or not. I know a lot of people say that it can take up to a year to see a difference so I’m going to keep using it! Anyway, I use it 3 nights a week (Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday) and I apply it AFTER my moisturizer. My dermatologist told me to do this to keep my face from getting so dry. Tretinoin is a product that you need to be prescribed from a dermatologist just FYI!
Step 5 - Lash Serum - using a lash serum has been a GAME CHANGER. I promise you, if you’re consistent with using it every night, you will see results and you will love those results. My personal fav that doesn’t cause irritation to my eyes and is clean is the Dime Beauty Lash Serum! You can use code rose20 for 20% off!
Step 6 - Lip Mask - Idk about you but I feel like my lips are dry ALL the time. I have been LOVING this lip mask. I feel like it actually works and I wake up and my lips are still feeling soft and smooth!
Other important factors:
Many of you know that one of my goals is to get a facial once a month leading up to the wedding. I also saw a dermatologist who prescribed me oral medicine to help with my acne and I truly think that was what did it for me. I highly recommend going to see a dermatologist if you’re able. Here is what I’m taking:
150mg of Spironolactone - I take in AM and PM
Another product worth mentioning is the Dime Blue Facial oil. I don’t use this as often now that my breakouts are at bay but whenever I do have a breakout, this oil helps my skin tremendously. I also think it’s helped with my acne scarring and dark spots! I highly recommend this product if you struggle with acne! You can use code ROSE20 for 20% off!
I also drink greens every single morning. I’m not sure if this has any affect on my skin but I’m letting you all know just in case ;-). My daily water intake has also increased drastically and I know this is definitely a huge factor in skin health.
I think that’s just about everything! Please let me know if you have any questions or need me to clarify anything!
